Dear Leader,
It is the last week of May
and my guess is you are frantically finishing the last of your evaluations and closing down various programs and projects.
On top of that all the “end of school” celebrations and ceremonies are in full swing. I can hear you saying that
you don’t have time to think about next year, let alone take the time to plan.
All well and good, AND your
best move right now would be to set aside an hour or two and review this year and plan for next. It won’t take more time than a few hours and you will be so glad, in August, you did.
Here’s the drill:
· Assess this year
o What went well?
o What didn’t go well?
o What do I want next year?
· Pick three overarching goals that will encompass next years plan (probably already in your School
Improvement Plan)
· Decide where you want to be on the goals by next June
· Schedule your staff days
· Decide what the content of those days will be in light of the goals
· Talk to your staff (before they leave) about next years goals
There you go. You are ready
for August and it is not even June!!
You will have all the information
you need to plan for next year with your staff still on campus and you can take next-year planning off your list.
Do it this week and feel
prepared and ready for a well-deserved break soon.
